Blog #4: Google Yourself

I will admit that I have definitely googled myself in the past. I like knowing what information about myself comes up if anybody else were to do the same. I've done the best to avoid having most things show up, such as my facebook profile.

When I googled myself this time, there were 2 LinkedIn profiles that first came up- both which are not mine (seeing as I don't have a LinkedIn profile). The next result was actually my Twitter page. I somewhat dislike that my Twitter shows up especially right at the top of the search results on google. The next result read "Painting by Erica Stowe, NBS alumni, hangs at the Capitol." Not me. Though if anybody would like to view this other Erica Stowe's painting of her old horse, please feel free to check it out here. http://northbranchschool.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/painting-by-erica-stowe-nbs-alumni-hangs-at-the-capital/

The rest of the results were then "Erica Stowe on MyLife.com" (not me), a nice presentation by yet another Erica Stowe, a white pages result (not me), results from a high school track meet for a Virginia Erica Stowe-then finally, one of me. My work releases newsletters from time to time, and there is a little blurb from when I was first hired sharing a little bit of information about me, such as my major. After that, there really was not much more about me. That Erica Stowe with the painting seems to be pretty popular though, I think she's the same one with the track scores (and an article about a great performance in a soccer game).

On page 4 and 5 I finally found a few more results on me, stuff from high school swim and a page listing me as an All-State swimmer, then a few different pages with swim times and things like that. Nothing entirely interesting.

I enjoy googling myself because it is interesting to find what strange things from your past that you can find. It is not, however, enjoyable to find out how many other people with the same name as you there are out there....especially when they seem to be so accomplished. I still hate that my Twitter page shows up right away, but I guess that's my own fault for making it a private profile anyways.
