"Google Yourself"
The first option that came up on Google was, of course, Facebook. I was not surprised by this because I know that by signing up for Facebook, my information can be out for the world to see. There were also other "Sara Evenson's" that had links to them, but they were not me. It's interesting that the Facebook Profile that came up was me and not a different Sara Evenson, especially because other Sara Evenson's seemed to be more involved with different online activities than I am. Something I was surprised to see was that there was a link for "mylife.com" and I was a profile on there. When I tried clicking it, it told me I had to sign up in order to view the profile. I created a bogus name so I could see myself, but after signing up, the website told me I had to purchase a monthly membership in order to view any profiles. I have not signed up for My Life, so I am curious as to how they had my name and picture (not my current Facebook profile picture, but a previous one). It makes me wonder what information they have about me on mylife.com. If anyone has a membership to this, feel free to look me up and let me know what it says about me! :)

Hey Sara,
ReplyDeleteWow that is crazy that on the MyLife website, they had your name and an old picture of you, without you even being aware of it! I don't mean to sound like a grandma or part of a technopanic or anything, but it just goes to show you how easy it can be for people to steal identities online and post whatever they want under your name. A couple of weeks ago, I had a Facebook message from "Team Facebook" that said something like, "your Facebook account will be deactivated unless you sign in again." I logged out and signed back in as it said to do, (which was naive of me) and continued on Facebook. Later that night I was unable to sign back in. It turned out that the message I recieved was not from Facebook, but from a hacker who recreated a Facebook login page to get my password. It looked identical to the real Facebook web page! The hacker sent a message to my uncle on my Facebook account, asking my uncle for his user name and password, in the hopes that my uncle would give his neice his information in order to steal his online poker chips, which are not even worth any money! I guess these chips are extremely valuable to some people. Fortunately, my uncle was smarter than I was and called me to varify that I wanted his information. Lucky for me, that was all he wanted to do from my account. Thanks mister hacker for freaking me out and making me change all my passwords 3 and 4 times in order to log back on as myself! Just be careful on the web guys!
When I googled my name there was a MyLife result too, but I didn't think any of them were of my name so I just moved on. But after reading your post I decided to check again- and same thing for me! I was among about 8 other Erica Stowe's and it listed that I've lived in Madison, Wisconsin and had one of my Facebook profile pictures from about 2 years ago. I'm hoping that there is nothing else about me on the website- but I agree with Carla- kind of creepy!
