Practicum- Erica
My practicum topic is special interest communities, and I have chosen vacation planning- specifically vacation planning in Walt Disney World. I'm a big fan of Disney World and have been there on several occassions (including having spent a semester working there) so I felt as if I'll have plenty of things to contribute to the boards. I'm a member of a message board- "The Unofficial Online Guide Forums" and am a part of the official Disney Blogs community. I've also found a website called allears.net that provides information about the park to everyone- and I've decided to be a part of its Facebook group where everyone joins in discussion. I think as a part of this project I'm just going to start planning my own trip to Disney World (whether or not it can happen) based on everyone else's recommendations, and hopefully make some good recommendations of my own to the others. Right off the bat contributing to the forum has been fun, and I enjoy being able to personalize my page through choosing an Avatar and editing my signature, things like that. It will be interesting to explore more through the threads and to make connections with the other individuals involved.

This sounds like such a fun topic! Will you only be focusing on Disney World in Orlando or also Disney Land in LA and Paris? Also, what about Disney cruises? Personally, I'd like to hear about your experience working in the park. I've heard so many myths and rumors, and I'd like to know what really goes on there. Were you a character? Anyway, enjoy your research and participation in the sites, and I look forward to hearing more about it!
ReplyDeleteI will just be focusing on Disney World, but we'll see if other places come up (there is a section on the forum about other Disney places, and the blog has the option of just reading up on WDW news or all Disney stuff). I'm not sure how much of my experiences working in the park will come up, but I'm sure a lot of my posts will relate back to it!
ReplyDeleteI worked at Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride and the Enchanted Tiki Room in the Magic Kingdom. So I did get to see Jasmine & Aladdin pretty much every morning! It really is a fun place to work, and I had so many people coming up to me asking "what do they put in the water?" or "are you all really this happy?" and for the most part the answer is always yes! Hopefully I'll be able to talk about it more through the message boards and everything, but let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to answer!
