Hello everyone-
Tomorrow I am presenting on the presence of minority groups, specifically Latinos on the Internet. Since my last post I have become more involved with a Facebook group called "Latino!!!!" I have also joined MiGente and Quepasa. Both of these sites are social networking sites with a heavy Latino population. Very frequently users post their comments in Spanish. It is not unusual for some users to also say things using both languages. Spanglish is a very important code to know in order to understand what is being communicated on these sites. I am going to wait to tell you more about these sites and my experiences until tomorrow but I do have a few questions for you to think about:
1) Do you know anyone that is a user of either MiGente or Quepasa?
- Are they of Latino decent?
- For what reasons do they use these sites?
2) Would you ever consider joining one of these sites?
3) Do you think that this group is at a disadvantage due to potential language barriers?
