Practicum Two-Carly

Last week, I downloaded World of Warcraft and briefly engaged myself in the game, but this afternoon I spent a bit more time exploring what this game is all about. Immediately I ran into trouble when I had to pick a character name. Being that I've never played this type of game before, I had no idea if I was supposed to come up with a regular name, use my name, or create something more "Medieval"-sounding. I allowed the game to pick my name and so I play with a character called Eviandra.

When the game began, there was a brief voiceover detailing the current state of affairs in the WoW world. My character began with the option to greet another character in an Abbey for my first mission, which I accepted. I had to kill eight vermin in a field just North of the Abbey. I had absolutely no idea how to use any of my weapons and wound up taking a lot of damage from the vermin whom I'm guessing were supposed to be easy to kill.

WoW has a chat feature on the side of the game that allows all players to communicate, but I was surprised at how infrequently it was used. I know from others who've played the game that they often embark upon missions with other people in the game, but from my (limited) experience so far, I have no idea how one would go about meeting people to mission with. More to come!

  1. I'm really interested to hear about your experiences with WoW. My friend really loves it, and she often neglects school work to play it. I've always been really curious what the appeal is. I asked her about it, and she said she used the chat feature to talk to her boyfriend and other friends. I'm really interested to hear more about how things go. Good luck!
