When I visit Hulu, I feel like it is pretty similar with YouTu. Both homepages have a big central area for ad. YouTu uses the searching bar as its primary navigation. You don't need to consider if you want to search a movie or music. You just type the key words and it will come out the results. This design is clear and direct for user. In Hulu, it uses “channels, most popular, recent add, etc” as its primary navigation. YouTu also have those “most popular” videos, but they are located in the upper side of the page.
First I tried to search a very popular Taiwan variety show in Hulu. I almost watch this show in YouTu every day. Unfortunately, there was no video about this show in Hulu. I tried to search other popular Taiwan variety shows (which have been viewed over 10 thousand times in YouTu), but I still got nothing. To my disappointed, it seems like Hulu doesn't support the Chinese character search, which YouTu does. For example, I searched “陳奕迅”, a famous singer from Hong Kong, and there wasn’t any result about him in Hulu. However, when I searched his English name Eason Chan, I got only 15 results, while there were over 5390 results about Eason Chan in YouTu. It seems like YouTu is more international, and Hulu only opens up the American market. In order to explore more about both websites, I searched “Project Runways”. On YouTu, the episode came in many 10-min segments, which means I had to go back and click on the next parts when I watch it. Even I can add all these segments in my playlist I still had to watch the episode parts by parts. On Hulu however, it went through the whole episode. Moreover, the quality was much better than YouTu. It is ok to watch short video in YouTu, but if I have to watch some shows such as Project Runway I would more prefer Hulu.
