Another aspect of Kongregate that I find to be interesting is the system of points, achievements or badges, cards, and awards. I found this to be really similar to the idea of achievements and a gamer score on Xbox 360. Whenever you play a game on Kongregate, there is a possiblity of getting achievements, awards for completeing specific tasks. When you get an achievement, you recieve points. These points are added together, and determine when you level up. The higher the number of points you have, the higher the level. The higher the level, the more bragging rights. When you get an achievement, you recieve the points and a badge to show that you did the achievement. You can also go the the badges page to see which achievements you still need. (See image)
Kongregate also has a system of awards for completeing specific challenges. Challenges are sort of like achievements, in that they give you a specific task to complete in a specfic game, but the challenges expire. So, if you don't complete a challenge within a specific amount of time, you lose the opportunity to ever complete the challenge. When you complete the challenge, you are awarded cards instead of points. You can then use these cards to play Kongai, the online card battle game through Kongregate.
I believe that the idea of challenges is a good one for a site such as this. I have been trying for the challenges not because I want the cards to play Kongai, but so I can play new games that I might not have found otherwise. The achievements are also a good system because it allows you to see how much gaming on this site people have done. It also gives you a sense of accomplishment because you got something out of playing a certain game.
