I have still been relatively unsuccessful in my attempts to contact seniors online. I think the biggest development is emailing with Millie, the writer of one of the blogs I’ve been following. I asked her why I was having trouble finding senior communities, and she told me:
“You are on the right track when you say seniors use the Internet just like teens do seniors out there. More and more seniors are using computers - In many cases their sons or grandchildren are helping them (like my son helps me). Maybe when they are in their 60's they don't want to share that info. I'm 85 and happy to let people know my age because I have made it to this age and am keeping up with the times.”
Although she encourages people to contact her, she said she doesn’t talk to many blog readers. She has talked to and met a few readers, but most people either comment on her post or just read it without mentioning anything. She is pretty amazing, and a great emailer. I was kind of surprised to see how fast she emailed me. I emailed her a few weeks ago around 7PM, and she responded by 9 PM! I think this is further proof that seniors are using the Internet more consisitently and in the same ways we are using it.
None of the other blogs I’ve read have such clear authors. With Millie, it is obvious that she is the only one including content. I’m afraid to contact too many of the people who’ve commented on the blog since they’re not necessarily seniors. I have a few leads, but I’m always looking for advice. If anyone has a suggestion about where to find more senior communities, I’d be happy to hear some suggestions. Or just feel free to comment general thoughts about seniors and what they’re doing online!
