Practicum #7- Carla Pentimone

When posting on other blogs such as Blackhawk Buzz, Icing-Tribute Hawks Blog, and Third man in to name just a few, my comments had to wait for moderation and be okayed before they would be published. It is in this way that there are social hierarchies that limit the items posted by readers and followers in order to maintain and control the content of the author’s blog. When posting on a blog, many require your email address and full name. This is one way that blogs enable the user to exhibit a sense of identity for the poster as well as to other viewer of the site. Though online identity is disembodied, I feel that identities are actively constructed through our use of blogs. By designing a blog, posting pictures, personal opinions and views, you are active in constructing your identity. This identity is further strengthened when you make social connections with others who reply and post with their own identity. From my experience with blogging, especially within the realm of sports, there seems to be a competitive edge to who can display themselves to be the most successful, elite, and good looking. This could be due to the nature of athletics themselves, or because many people want to depict themselves in the most positive manner possible.
