Practicum 4: Questions

Hey everyone, so here are some questions for you to think about before I present tomorrow on specialized information sites

1. When you want to learn about a specific topic, where do you go/find that information?

2. What helps you the most using information sites? Discussion forums? Videos? Pictures?

3. How do you use or participate in them?

4. When using these sites, do you return to them or become an active member in the community by answering other people's question, showing results of your work, etc.?

  1. When I am learning something new, I always look to the Internet first. It is so convenient and I have found that there is a how-to for literally anything. For example, when I was on vacation with my family once we bought a tropical fruit that we had never had. We wanted to know how to cut and what we could use it for, and this information was all online, complete with pictures and instructions. It was such a mundane thing, but it was still there!
I think it depends on what I am doing when it comes to what works best. If I am looking to do something physical, a video is probably best but if I am looking for a recipe directions work best. I think forums are helpful in understanding others' experience.
I don't really think that I participate in how-to sites, but like I said, I have used them many times. If it is something that I was really impressed (or really unimpressed) with, I may post a comment to let others know about my experience.

  2. Reading your questions kind of made me laugh because everytime I turn to the internet to learn something it usually is about some new silly dance that had just come out. Will never forget dancing in my kitchen with my roommates trying to figure out how to do the stanky leg and then watching music video after music video. I don't ever participate in these sites but I frequently turn to googleing what ever I am questioning or wanting to learn more about.
