Practicum 2 Ashley

So I have decided to stick with the three websites I discussed in my first post. In this post, I will talk specifically about the Knitting website. I've spent most of my time on that site than the other two, just because it easier to navigate and use and seems to be updated more frequently than the others. The knitting site has a basic forum where people can post and ask questions. People ask about types of yarn to use, tips and pointers, suggestions, and many respond with websites or links to pictures or videos. Videos and pictures are really common on this site when teaching others. There's even a segment of the website dedicated to just videos, which people can comment on, but most questions go on the forum. The site also provides patterns and a glossary for terms for beginners which i think is important. You don't need to know how to knit to join this site. It is for all levels. I've been noticing a lot that these sites sell books or dvds, which I think is helpful that it provides that resource but it takes away from people sharing and exchanging information, a key component to these sites. What is also cool about this site is that when people finish a project that they work on, they take photos and post what they've done. It becomes a community in that way. People frequently post and come back to the site. It's not a one time stop.

This is just a snapshot of one of the subtopics in the forum. This person did the silver sock tutorial, and this was actually her first pair of socks she's ever made. Throughout the forum she talks about her progress, using it as almost a mini blog like we're doing, and this is her final product.
