History of the Internet
Like the rest of the class, I thought this video clip was very helpful. It really put things into perspective being able to visually see the connection between the different networks. I find it interesting that a majority of the development for the internet was based on the fact that the Americans were threatened by other countries advancing in technology or warfare. For example, the launching of Sputnik 1 provoked the Americans to not want to fall behind in the race for technology. In this video, I did learn something different from what was learned in class. The video touched base on the different kinds of internet: commercial, military and science-based.

I also thought that it was very interesting and ironic that the start of the internet was a technique and strategy of warfare. What was intended to be the way for the military to keep information available to Americans only, has transformed into one of the most powerful communication tools that keeps people from all around the world informed, social, and connected. The internet culture has become a commonality for many people on this earth and has been a link for different societies, countries, cultures and people. It is an uplifting thought that what was once used only in a sector of war (defined by wikipedia as phenomenon of organized violent conflict between belligerent groups or nations, typified by extreme aggression, societal disruption and adaptation, and high mortality) is now used for social networking, information sharing and sound communication.
