History of the Internet

Watching this “History of the Internet” clip reminds me of what an incredible invention the Internet truly is. Just like most other students, I use the Internet daily and do not think about all of the hard work and effort that was put into making such a unique system. There was a lot of manual work that had to be done before 1957, but 1957 marked a big change. Before 1957, computers could only work one task at a time and just like we learned in lecture, this is called batch processing. This way was very ineffective so the idea of time sharing arose. I also found it very interesting that this new idea of the Internet was being worked on from all areas of the world. The illustrations they used to help describe how the Internet works were helpful, but there are also a lot of terms that I’m not familiar with, and I will have to keep reminding myself of them! Overall, I found this clip very interesting and informational because, like I said earlier, we use the Internet on a daily basis, but do not think about all the brain power that was put into making such a vital piece of not only our daily lives, but of our history.
