History of the Internet
I think that the video and the lecture about the history of the Internet were very interesting and really got me thinking about how lucky our generation really is. First of all, I would like to point out that I did not realize that we could trace the Internet back as early as 1957 and what the ARPANET was originally intended for. I guess I have always just assumed that the World Wide Web came much later for purposes similar to how we use it today (e-mail, information, etc.). The deeper, much earlier history is very interesting, yet seems so primitive. I think it is important for us to understand what we have at our fingertips and that it is not a right, but rather a great privilege that took years of manpower and intelligence to develop into something so elaborate. Today, I can watch TV, movies, and keep up with my correspondence all while researching a project with just the click of button. I have never stopped to think that at one point it took several minutes to send a 5 word message. I thought the video was definitely interesting, but it also just reiterated exactly what we discussed in lecture, but I think that it is important to learn a little about something that has become so vital to our everyday lives.
