1. Because communication is limited to those who use headsets, should game companies include headsets to promote user interactions?
2. Do you think networked gaming is an acceptable alternative to normal social interaction?
3. Should online gaming be free to all those with internet connection? (PS3 = Free vs. Xbox Live = Monthly Charge)
Hey Mike,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, good job on the presentation today! I think online gaming is an interesting topic, and as I am not a big gamer myself I was surprised to hear about some of the things you mentioned in your presentation. For instance, I didn't realize that many games use headsets now, I thought that would be pretty weird. I would definitely prefer to stick to text-based communication with other players. Also, in lecture, Liz argued that people playing online games are not anti-social, or isolating, but I don't know if I really agree with that. It's easy for people to become addicted to online games, and I don't think this is an acceptable alternative to normal social interaction, because you're not going out and talking to people, rather you're completely focused on the game.
