Practicum #6- Carla Pentimone

So it is a little less that two months into the practicum assignment, and I have learned that obviously, it is more difficult as an individual person, than it would be as an organization, a particular interest group or topic, or a celebrity or profession athlete to gain popularity and visibility through their blog, even if the content discussed on that blog is the same or even more insightful than the content in these popular blogs. (Carla’s World is awesome, way better than those other blogs ;D ) Due to the fact that I am neither a celebrity, or even a micro celebrity (as we learned about from our guest lecturer) I worked to establish relationships with other bloggers by constructing my blog around the theme of hockey, and not a personal diary that only my friends could appreciate. I added links to other blogs which I have posted on and am following, which include other hockey sites such as Second City Hockey, the Fifth Feather, and Blackhawk Up. The first followers I received were people from these sites who I did not know, interested in hockey. I feel that by displaying only articles, links, and pictures to my blog related to hockey, I shaped and limited its potential uses to a forum that discusses hockey. An example of a post I had was about a recent trip to Chicago, where I watched the historical Stanley Cup banner of the Blackhawks, along with a personal photo from the game. Readers and followers of blogs are in this way limited to the possibilities and constraints of blog topics, especially in interest -based blogs published by organizations rather than individuals on sites such as blogger.
