Computerized Interactions

Over the past few years, computerized interactions have become a major part of my life. I rarely go anywhere without my blackberry, and when I travel, I almost always bring my laptop. For example, this past weekend I traveled to Milwaukee on Friday and Chicago on Saturday. I brought both my phone and my laptop along with me. During the weekend, I used my laptop to look up information on restaurants and directions, and also to check Facebook and Twitter. I used my phone to text and bbm friends and my parents, and I also regularly used my phone to check sports updates on espn.com. It's pretty incredible how intertwined computerized interactions have become in our daily lives; sometimes I forget how much more I use these interactions than I did just a few years ago, perhaps because it has been a gradual process. This exercise made me want to take a step back and think about if it's really necessary to be connected to all of these media outlets all the time. It will be interesting to see how these computerized interactions evolve and become even more time consuming in daily life.

  1. I completely agree. I never realized how often I am using my computer or cell phone. It is almost a constant from the time I wake up till I go to bed at night. I wonder how much more I would get done if I weren't constantly connected to the Internet 24/7.
