Practicum #4:
In lieu of the success of the Wisconsin football team in the past several weeks, I decided to follow some of the players on Twitter. I found that a lot of the Badger Football players have Twitter accounts. Of all of the players, J.J. Watt has been one of the funniest and most interesting to follow. He tweets often, mostly about what he's up to in Madison. The other morning, he tweeted that he and the entire defensive line were eating a giant breakfast at Mickey's Dairy Bar on Monroe Street. Following people who you don't necessarily know, but live in close proximity to is interesting. In instances like this, social networking sites like Twitter can bring people and spaces closer together. As students at the University of Wisconsin, we all know that the Football players, and other athletes, are often regarded as semi-celebrities, but by doing something like following them on Twitter, one can see that athletes like J.J. Watts are just regular students, doing things that all of us do... like going out to breakfast with friends. In my previous post, I wrote that I don't really enjoy following celebrities on Twitter because I feel like what some famous person is doing out in L.A. isn't really relevant to my life, and while I'm still struggling to get really 'into' Twitter, I've found that I find more enjoyment in following people who are nearby because it's kind of fun to hear about people and places that I am familiar with. More tweeting to come, and go badgers!

I think it was a great idea to follow Badger players on Twitter! Now is definitely a time that they'll probably be really active. I'm not on Twitter, but your post made me want to get one so that I could follow a few players... I won't though. I'm not sure why, but I am not really into Twitter either. I am interested in hearing what my friends are doing, but I don't know that I want to know that badly. I also really liked your point about how seeing celebrity tweets from LA aren't really applicable to your every day life. MInus celebrity crazed people, I wonder if people prefer to follow those who live closer to them? I'll be interested to hear more about badger tweets so I hope you post more about that in the future!
