Practicum 5 - Mallory

Second Life's Hockey League

While exploring on Second Life's destination guide, I noticed there was a destination called the Global Online Hockey Association. With hockey being my favorite sport, I decided to check this destination out. I was transported to an outdoors location that was full of snow, evergreen trees, and a pathway that lead to a hockey arena. First of all, outside the rink was an outdoor skating pond with a sign that said "free skates". I decided to try my avatar out on skating. It wasn't too exciting so I went to the hockey rink. This rink looked exactly like a small college's hockey rink (not the Kohl center), with details such as the lines on the ice, stands for spectators, benches, nets, pucks, and even flags for different countries hanging up on the arena wall. A few avatars came out on the ice dressed in hockey equipment and told me to get off the ice since a game was starting soon. Instead of watching, being a hockey player in real life, I decided I wanted to learn how to play on Second Life and how to get equipment. I transported to a practice facility after seeing a sign for it. When I got there, there was a sign to click to contact a "coach" who helps beginners get started, so I clicked this. After ten minutes, no coach came so I tried to set my avatar up myself with hockey gear. I clicked the sign to get hockey gear, and I could not figure out how to open the hockey bag and put it on the avatar. I decided to give up after about another 10 minutes of trying. I think I will return another time to try and see if a coach will be there to help me.
