Computerized Interaction

I tracked my Sunday night computer activity as I figured this was when I would use my computer the most. All throughout the day I constantly logged on to espn.com to check my two fantasy football teams, and check my facebook. In fact most of the day I had my laptop open next to me with two windows open, usually facebook/espn or email/espn. I never really realized how much I just always had my computer open. I also was in the process of booking shows in Chicago for my band so starting around 6pm I was texting back and forth with band mates and emailing back and forth with the show promoter. It was kind of interesting using two forms of written communication at the same time, although I kept wanting the email to move as quickly as the texts. I also went on the computer to get Rose Bowl tickets, and when that moved slow as well I was quite angry. I am definitely used to speedy communication through things like text messaging, facebook chat (when it works), and even email occasionally. When things on the computer or Internet run a little bit slower than I would like I get very impatient. I think it is interesting that the "slow" speed was probably fast at one point in my life, back when dial-up was around, but now it really annoys me. I guess we just get used to each new speed of communication quite easily and always are looking for higher and higher speeds.

  1. I thought an interesting point you brought up was the speed of the internet last night during the time rose bowl tickets went on sale and how the speed, although slow was once very fast for us. It just takes years for the speed of the internet and expectations to change so much. I remember when "high speed" internet came out and it seemed like a revolution. Now I am satisfied with the speed but do not have much patience for when it goes slower than usual. This really shows how much speed really matters to us and our ways of communication and computing.
