Computerized Interactions

I agree with a previous post that my interactions would be simultaneous on my phone and computer. I started on my computer at about 4 PM and used it for much of the night from there on out. I too would have several pages open, including Facebook, email, and my fantasy football team. My league is set up where when players receive stats, the fantasy scores update instantly; my team is not good at all but I like watching the games and then tracking my fantasy players. I also have a fantasy hockey team, so I would navigate to espn.com and look at NHL boxscores to see how my players were doing in fantasy hockey. Meanwhile, I would be calling or texting friends (Sunday is a popular day for me to catch up with people from home). Once 6 or 7 PM rolled around, my focused shifted to Rose Bowl tickets. I am going with a few friends, so there was constant messaging, emailing, and calling all while looking at the computer and figuring out the best way to get tickets. A long story short, we ended up getting tickets but of course had to wait a bit because of heavy use on uwbadgers.com with everyone trying to get tickets. Our lives are run by these devices and I agree with a previous post that when they do not work properly, we think the sky is falling. A perfect example was the bowl ticket website last night. Due to high traffic, the site moves a lot slower than it usually does. Even though we know this is going to happen, I usually freak out and get worried my computer is broken or something. Computers run our lives and are a big part of what we do on a daily basis.

  1. I agree with you that computers seem to run our lives and are a big part of what we do on a daily basis. It is hard to not use computers and it seems like things we don't realize computers, actually are a computerized item.
