Practicum 7

As I continue to explore and relate ideas and themes from class to the online activist group I have been participating I found some new features that I can apply. I decided to explore the area that links the advocacy group to social networking sites, in particular I chose the one I use most, Facebook. Here there was a strong sense of netroots. The advocacy group on Facebook is thousands of members and the wall, which is visible to anyone who has a profile, is constantly updated with events, and encouraging statements. The growing sense of an online world that connects you to an offline world in evident here. Posts after post give links to websites, areas of donation and event information. There is an overwhelming sense of community here where the members are sharing the same goals and interests. It is interesting to see how much more connected the social networking feature of the advocacy group is than from the original website and foundation.
