As I have been continuing my search for how social activists are using the web, I further looked into the current website I was a member of as well as a few more. I am looking specifically at how breast cancer awareness activists are using the web to advocate and show their position. Other than the Susan G. Komen group I am part of, I decided to join The Breast Cancer Network of Strength to compare the two.
The websites are similar in that they are urging its members and other interested individuals to reach out to federal officials and the government to make a difference. I found links and url codes to post "stickers" on your personal webpage. I was going to try to do this but since I do not have a webpage or blog, I realized that it would not work on my basic facebook page. The website was helpful in that it informed me on my local officials and showed me who I should be reaching out to in order to make a difference. Overall, I did find that there was more to offer on the Breast Cancer Network of Strength website, especially the member-to-member communication through a blog, and forum. Although not very active, I decided to become a participant and share my opinions and ideas. I have continued to explore other websites of social activism regarding this issue and have so far found my favorite to be the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
