I have been checking up on the advocacy alliance groups I have joined to gain Breast Cancer Awareness and research but have not seen much development or progress from the networks. I have found that the groups I have been following take the online space to share more personal information and stories over playing an activist role. There are members who share events and information regarding awareness but overall the online space is used as support, although a advocacy group.
What I did find, and learned from the groups, was about Obama's health reforms and how they affect Breast Cancer patients. I thought that this was effective and was a good source to show how passing a piece of legislation could change so much. The shared information over the internet and websites encourages individual activity, but as I have noticed I still find a lack of group participation and member-to -member contact to be the optimal mode of activism.
