Practicum 7- Erica
I had never started my own thread on the UOG, partially just because I didn't really have anything I could think of to ask. But at the beginning I told myself I would do that at least once just so I could see the response I got and whatever else, so I posted something about park music and if anyone else knew where I could find certain songs. I got about two responses which really weren't useful, and while I was appreciative that someone at least responded, I was expecting a bit more especially because I'll often see the most mundane of questions turn into the longest threads. I've also noticed while on the boards that there is one person that seems to comment on a lot of different things. There are actually a few quite active users, but this particular girl stuck out to me a lot, I think because of the attitude she has. She's a current participant in the Disney College Program and she'll respond to everyone's posts as if she owns the place just because she is a Cast Member. She acts condescending gets defensive if someone says they were unhappy about a certain part of her trip. I had to restrain myself from replying back to one of her comments in a mean way. In another thread users started getting a little snippy with each other and someone else told them to keep it nice, but I'm a little tempted to start my own little argument. It's funny how this stuff can actually annoy me to that level. I also clicked around this girl's profile and she had a link to a blog she's keeping while she's working at WDW. I know blogs are usually public anyways, but this one seemed like the sort of blog that is meant for her close friends and family so that they know how her life is going while she's away. Usually people do not start following a blog like that unless they have a personal connection with the person. I just find it very interesting that she clearly feels close enough with the Disney UOG community that she provides them a link to her personal blog. I think it shows that she really does feel a part of a community with these people and that they are important to her.
