Practicum 8 - Sasha

So since my last post I have tried to get on to mygrito but it hasn't been working. I found a tweet from the mygrito admin on Dec 9th that the site was relaunching. Another tweet said "2011 here we come!!!" so I wonder if the site is under construction until the new year.
On Twitter I found another tweet from WiredLatinos that had tweeted an article explaining a research study that shows that Latinos and African Americans are twice as likely to use Twitter than their white counterparts. (http://www.wiredlatinos.com/internet/latinos-and-african-americans-twice-as-likely-to-use-twitter/).
I went and checked out the actual website for Wired Latinos and I was rather frustrated that I did not find this website earlier in the semester. This site claims that it is "a technology blog that keeps the pulse of Latinos online." In the about us section of the site I found another sentence that explained the site by explaining that, "In addition to keeping you informed and up to date on everything that is going on in the Latino online community, we also keep abreast of the technology industry by blogging all about the cool new stuff that intrigues us, excites us, moves us, helps us, inspires us, improves us and connects us." This site has links on it to blogs by Latinos, Hispanic trending, BusinessLatinos.com, WiredLatinos on Twitter, etc. This site is all about creating a community for Latinos online. It is dedicated to keeping this minority group connected while allowing them to communicate in either or both Spanish and English. The use of both languages helps create a sense of community by sharing some information in English and using "code" to share other pieces of information in Spanish. I plan on exploring this site a bit more for my final paper.
On Twitter I read some of the tweets from members of the Latino community. I feel like most of the tweets I read were about Latinan nutrition, health, common issues Latinos face in American society, and beauty. Some examples include @Latinonutrition, @BLOGSbyLATINAS, @AmericanLatina. I also noticed that the majority of the tweets I found were in English. I am wondering if it is more of a norm to use twitter by sharing in english. Another popular topic on twitter was also about music. I feel like music is something that many Latinos can identify with and therefore it is talked about so frequently. Well for now that is all I have to share. Any comments people have would be great to have for my final paper! Thank you.
